Water supplies for fire fighting

Companies should seek to balance the need to conserve water during periods of drought with the need to provide a sufficient supply in the pressurised water network (PWN) that provides Fire Authorities with a sufficient supply of water for the purpose of fire fighting in order to save life and property. At a major fire, the supply of water from the tank of a single fire engine can be exhausted in around two minutes and needs to be supplemented from the PWN. Consideration must be given to balancing these challenges and having robust procedures to deliver water for fire fighting at times when water supply reduction measured might be implemented.

Why the contribution is important
