Problems with regulators
It has been fairly obvious to me that the government has no real intention of supporting small business with innovation. Our UK intellectual property office is little more than a joke and if a small business were to be innovative, I can assure you it would only be a matter of time before their inspiration was stolen by a bigger company. The protection is just there unless a company has limitless funds.
Unfortunately HSE are even worse than our patent office and since they started looking after the European Biocide Regulations regarding animal products they have failed miserably. The HSE don’t seem to have the manpower/ will or resources to enforce the law.
I hope you don’t think I am totally Bah-humbug it is just a fact that these two departments are little more than a smoke screen. The government are not listening or supporting either of them or SME’s,
Why the contribution is important
If Defra want to support business innovation through its regulations and the actions of its regulators then it needs to make sure there are consequences (that are enforced) for non-compliance.
