Sharing outbreak data will help all pig farmers

Should PEDV be suspected or confirmed on a pig unit in England, APHA would send details to AHDB Pork would then contact the affected farm and offer assistance to the operators and their veterinary surgeons in managing the outbreak and to help prevent onward spread of the virus.

Why the contribution is important

We want to know if you think this is an effective tool to manage any disease outbreak in an unit and preventing PEDv spread.

To stand any chance of mitigating an outbreak of PEDv we need to be coordinated and collaborative

Sharing information is important (source Pig Progress August 2015)

Dr Paul Sundberg, head of the US Swine Health Information Center, told Farmscape, that PEDv had exposed the importance of sharing information.

He said, "One of the things that producers and their veterinarians realised through that experience as well as with that continued battle with PRRS is that sharing information in a manner than can help everybody is valuable and can help improve the health of the national herd and improve the health of the herds on the farm."
